Love of My Fathers

Posted in Θ, by Dave Ferrier on August 31, 2007
Oh, great Love of my fathers
Reveal Yourself now from their memories’ graves
Shed the pall and the stone
That I may give myself to You
Oh, great Love of my fathers
Look in horror, as my soul does daily
Upon the things I have done
That I may measure myself to You
Oh, great Love of my fathers
May You find me, always, not where I am
Stuck in the moors of my numbness
That I may prove myself to You
Oh, great Love of my fathers
I see You and cringe at my face in the glass
Get behind me, Satan
That I might rid myself of you
Oh, great Love of my fathers
Do You see a day when this might be over?
You know I can’t see ahead
That I might return myself to You

How Great Is Our God

Posted in Θ by Dave Ferrier on August 28, 2007

I’m in a class this year that requires me to read 7 chapters of the Bible a night (requires in a good way).

Earlier tonight I was reading from Exodus 19. This is the passage that really hit me.

16On the morning of the third day there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud on the mountain and a very loud trumpet blast, so that all the people in the camp trembled. 17Then Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they took their stand at the foot of the mountain. 18Now Mount Sinai was wrapped in smoke because the LORD had descended on it in fire. The smoke of it went up like the smoke of a kiln, and the whole mountain trembled greatly. 19And as the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him in thunder. 20The LORD came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain. And the LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.

I don’t know if you’ve ever seen a thick cloud on a mountain, but I have. I went to Colorado late this summer and clouds on the mountains were one of the most spectacular things I’ve ever seen. As clouds move in they are broken up by the jagged rocks of the mountains so a sort of skirt of haze is formed around it. Here’s a picture from the trip. I’m really sorry I could only get a thumbnail in. If you click on the thumbnail you can see the picture full size.

Now imagine that (only much more so) compounded by thunder and deafeningly loud trumpet blasts that shake the mountain. Throw in some lightening and set the top of the mountain on fire. Let no one say that our God is weak or a crutch for those with cowardly and unstable souls.

Now imagine being told to enter deeper to the center of that.

Can you think what was going through Moses’ mind right then? I can’t, I can start, but I quickly get overwhelmed.

It shows incredible courage and faith on Moses’ part to obey God’s call into the midst of the danger. I can only pray that I’ll show the same courage.

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing

I can’t think of any song that better describes Christ and how I’ve related to Him.

I’m not sure why the video is a bunch of animals but the song is really what I’m on about and the images are there as a bonus.

Here are the lyrics:

Come thou fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount, I’m fixed upon it
Mount of Thy unchanging love
Here I raise my Ebenezer
Hither by Thy help I come
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wandering from the fold of God
He, to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood
Oh, to grace, how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be
May Thy goodness, like a fetter
Bind my wandering heart to Thee
Prone to wander, Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here’s my heart, Lord, take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Welcome

Perhaps one of the finest live performances I’ve ever seen.

Enjoy.
