Something To Think About
Dr. Norman L. Geisler in “Chosen But Free”
-Talking about Acts 13:48 and 14:1
“…The Bible teaches both divine sovereignty and human responsibility in the same overall passage. The same act can be determined by God as well as chosen by man. There is no contradiction between these as far as Scripture is concerned.“
A statement that has been immensely motivating in my pursuit of the topic of predestination. The fact that all over the Scripture the Bible has no problem with stating that both Divine Sovereignty and Human Choice are at work at the very same time is eye opening. It motivates me to find out more about how these two can fit together. I’m compelled to find a permanent answer, not one that says, “half the time it’s God and half the time it’s humans”, or something like that.
Something very worth thinking about.
Loose Leaf Tea
I don’t know if you’ve had loose leaf tea, but once you do, teabags just won’t do it for you anymore. The difference is surprising.
Worship
I’m a worship leader in chapel at school this year and was talking to someone who is also a worship leader today.
He asked me to define my understanding of worship, and then we had a very interesting and enlightening conversation about just what worship is.
The conclusion I came to from the conversation is that worship is taking what God has given you and using it. This, of course, excludes using these things in a way that is contrary to God and His commandments, by the very nature of worship.
I have come to the realization that worship does not need to be explicitly about God or Jesus or all that. In fact most of it isn’t at all. From the construction worker to the business man to the mother to the child to the teacher, WHATEVER you do, if you are simply doing it you are worshiping God.
You may not even realize that you’re doing it. Rather than being a sign of a routine faith (which it certainly could be), consider the possibility that perhaps it is a sign that Christ is having His way in your spirit and changing your very nature to be more like His. That He is making it your natural instinct to serve and love and worship the Father.
This certainly applies to more than the people who are doing the average in and out of their day. It also applies to the creative AND appreciative parts of us. The musician-the listener, the chef-the diner, the barista-the coffee lover, the artist-the observer. These too are worshipers.
Just some thoughts from my day, and a poor attempt at articulating them for that matter. I’d love to talk about this more so if you want to also find me and we will, I promise.
How To Make a Perfect Cup of French Press Coffee
I just did this and want to share the enjoyment.
1. Bring enough water to fill your French Press to a boil (an electric kettle works wonderfully for this).
2. Grind your desired coffee beans to a very coarse grind. Just until there are no whole beans left. Grind enough to cover the bottom of your French Press by about 1/4 of an inch. Put the grinds into the French Press.
3. After the water comes to a boil, take it off the heat and let it sit for 1-2 minutes so the water can hit the ideal temperature between 180 and 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
4. Pour the water over the grinds and fill the French Press.
5. Put the cover on your French Press to keep heat and steam in but do not push the depressor down.
6. Let the coffee steep for 3-4 minutes then slowly push down on the depressor until it stops.
7. Pour immediately and enjoy one of the best cups of coffee you’ll ever taste!
